The Coalition of District Assembly Members (CODAM) has thrown its support behind the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
The coalition made up of dedicated Assembly Members across the country, identified that John Mahama’s leadership vision aligns deeply with their mandate, thus ensuring welfare of the citizenry and development through efficient governance, development, and oversight.
Addressing the press, the Convener of the Coalition, Mawunyo Agbe noted that John Mahama’s commitment to local governance, transparency, and accountability were demonstrated in his promises and fulfillment.
He acknowledged the late Professor Evans Atta Mills/John Mahama’s fulfilled promise of procuring motorbikes for all Assembly Members to aid in their mobility and service delivery.
“CODAM is reminded of H.E. John Mahama and H.E The Late Professor Evans Attah Mills track
record of delivering on a promise to Assembly Members”, he said.
He indicated that Mr. Mahama when serving as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team expressed his commitment to empowering local governance and strengthening economic
support for development at all levels.
Mr. Agbe, however, expressed disappointment in the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government for failing to deliver on the promises of providing motorbikes for Assembly Members.
“The Ninth Assembly faces neglect as even basic membership cards are unavailable for Membership identification and recognition, reflecting a poor commitment to local governance. This lack of support undermines NALAG's credibility and frustrates its mission”, he added.
He lauded Mahama’s proposal to introduce a monthly consolidated allowance for all Assembly Members, which he said would cushion them financially to better perform their duties and responsibilities and ensure accountability.
“In addition, we acknowledge and support H.E. Mahama's Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL)
initiative, a bold approach aimed at reclaiming all unlawfully mismanaged state resources”, he added.
He reiterated the Coalition’s concerns about the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) engaging Digital City Solutions (DCS), to collect property rates on behalf of the various assblies nationwide.
He said CODAM had petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the alleged irregularities and, unlawful practices by Digital City Solutions, which had sued the GRA following the termination of the contract.
“CODAM's objective is to ensure that the revenues collected are accurately accounted for and transferred to the respective Assemblies promptly.”
“The Coalition of District Assembly Members (CODAM) urges all Ghanaians to support H.E. John
Dramani Mahama as the next President of Ghana. His leadership represents a renewed commitment to fostering accountability, empowering local governance, and ensuring that the resources of the nation are used for the benefit of the people”, Mr. Agbe concluded.
