The Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has served the country well and deserves the opportunity to become the substantive president.

According to Mr Ahiagbah, Dr Bawumia has performed better than any other vice president the country has had in recent years, and he has demonstrated this in several ways.

“Across the country, there is a general consensus among people that the Vice President, His Excellency Dr Bawumia has performed better in office than any vice president in recent history,” he said.

He further explained that the Vice President, who is seeking to become president in the December 7 elections, has “initiated and successfully implemented 33 initiatives as vice president, and I submit to you that, as president, he will achieve even more than that.”

Mr Ahiagbah made these remarks during a press conference held on Wednesday, November 27, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

He also remarked that the former president and now flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, was given the chance to lead but failed to demonstrate his competency, therefore, he does not deserve another opportunity.

“We voted in 2016 to remove John Mahama because he did not meet expectations. Somehow, in 2020, he [John Mahama] thought the verdict on him in 2016 was a flash in the pan, so he came again in 2020. We roundly confirmed that our decision was absolute and clear in 2016, and once again, we voted him out,” he said.

Mr Ahiagbah urged the general populace to reject the NDC and John Mahama in the upcoming elections, adding that the NPP should be given a landslide victory. “With all humility, I urge us all to give the NPP a landslide victory,” he stated.

He also criticized former president Mahama for leading the country into “untold hardship” during his tenure.

“The essence of leadership is dealing with challenges, but from what we have seen from the former president, he has shown that he cannot handle challenges. Therefore, on December 7, we must vote to show the former president, John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC that we, the people of Ghana, cannot afford the risk of electing a president who cannot respond to our needs and the challenges of these times,” he emphasised.
