The National Peace Council (NPC), in collaboration with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and other partners in the Election Situation Room, has expressed concern over the increasing incidents of electoral violence during the December 7 polls.
In a statement, the NPC condemned the shooting incident at the Awutu Senya East constituency which resulted in one fatality and left another person injured.
The Council emphasized that no lives should be lost or harmed during elections.
"The NPC once again decries the killing and injuring of any persons during the elections," part of the statement read.
The Peace Council also expressed its sympathy to the families and local community in Awutu Senya East and in other locations affected by unfortunate and regrettable electoral violence.
The Council called on all political actors to exercise restraint and refrain from resorting to firearms in addressing conflicts.
The NPC assured the public that it is engaging relevant stakeholders to address the Awutu Senya East incident and similar occurrences.
In the meantime, it urged the people of Awutu Senya East and Ghanaians nationwide to remain calm and allow security agencies to handle the situation.
