Some angry youth suspected to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) invaded the office of the Metro Mass Transport yard at Kaneshie in the Greater Accra Region on Monday, December 9.
One of the drivers, George K. Abu, told Joy News' Collins Frimpong that the individuals arrived at the yard around 8 am and demanded to see the manager. When they were refused access to the manager’s office, they attempted to loot a pick-up vehicle belonging to the company.
The driver alleged that the individuals were wearing NDC-branded shirts.
He further explained that, during the attempt to remove the vehicle, the police arrived at the scene, but the officers did not arrest any of the perpetrators.
Mr Abu said that after the police intervention, and with the situation seemingly calm, the group returned with more force, demanding to see the manager or take the pick-up vehicle.
Joy News understands that the perpetrators left the yard after their attempt to take the vehicle was unsuccessful.
This incident follows a similar one at the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly in Greater Accra, where some persons believed to be NDC supporters invaded the office complex, specifically targeting the National Service Scheme office and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) office.
These incidents are unfolding just after the 2024 general elections, in which the NDC is assumed to be leading in both the presidential and parliamentary races.
