The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described its victory in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections as a triumph for the "soul of Ghana" over the corruption and mismanagement of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Speaking at the 43rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey heavily criticized the current administration for what he termed "unprecedented levels of greed, selfishness, and policy failures," which have led to widespread poverty across the country.
"The lies, the selfishness, and the greed we have witnessed under this government are unprecedented," Mr Kwetey said.
“The corruption and decadence have reached alarming levels, and the policies have failed to address the needs of the people. As a result, poverty has become endemic under the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration."
He added that the people of Ghana, faced with these failures, were naturally driven to "rebel" against the government's shortcomings.

"In the midst of all this, the soul of Ghana willed to rebel," Mr Kwetey stated. "This victory, therefore, is the victory of the soul of Ghana against the decadence of the NPP."
While celebrating the NDC's progress, he stressed the need for the party to reflect on its responsibilities, urging it to move beyond political rivalry and focus on the country’s collective welfare.
"We must transcend the ‘me versus them’ mentality," he said.
"Ghana must become the centre of all we do.There are good people in the NPP and we need to find ways to celebrate those good people and urge that they gradually take over that party so that that party becomes just as virtuous as we are trying to make the NDC, so that we can have two parties that boast, care and love this country and believe in truth for the sake of the future of our country.”

The NDC General Secretary further stated that while he could wish for the NPP to remain in turmoil, his true hope for Ghana is progress and unity.
"I know I am expected to wish that the NPP remains in difficulty, but that is not my wish for Ghana," he said.
"We must remain grounded, humble, and recognize the enormity of the challenges ahead. Ghana does not expect perfection from John Mahama or the NDC. What Ghana wants is leadership that is committed to the well-being of its people and leaders who have the courage to accept the truth when necessary."

The 43rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, commemorated at the Nungua Town Park, marks a key event in the NDC's history.
The theme for this year’s event, "Victory 2024, Time to Reset Ghana," reflects the party's political significance.
The revolution, led by the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, overthrew the People’s National Party (PNP) government of Dr Hilla Limann in 1981, driven by a desire to address economic mismanagement, corruption, and inefficiency in governance.
