The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has promised to exceed previous efforts and fully commit himself to the responsibilities of the role if confirmed as Speaker of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament.
According to him, his pledge reflects a renewed sense of purpose as the legislative arm of government prepares for a new term.
This follows a directive from President-elect John Dramani Mahama, who instructed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to endorse him for the position.

President-elect Mahama praised Speaker Bagbin as a seasoned statesman with extensive parliamentary experience, highlighting his proven leadership as essential for addressing the challenges that lie ahead for Parliament.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude upon accepting the nomination, Speaker Bagbin thanked the President-elect, the NDC leadership, and the party’s parliamentary executives for the trust reposed in him.
He recognised the weight of the responsibility and assured all stakeholders of his unwavering commitment to upholding the values of service and accountability.
Speaker Bagbin further vowed to lead a Parliament defined by integrity, transparency, and inclusiveness.
He emphasised the need for unity in navigating legislative challenges and pledged to strengthen the institution’s role in fostering national development.
“I would like to take this opportunity to assure the President-Elect, John Mahama, and the people of Ghana that I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people,” he said.
