A former Deputy Attorney-General and Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Ayine, has expressed strong confidence in John Dramani Mahama’s administration, particularly in its handling of the country’s judiciary and justice delivery.
According to Ayine, the President is committed to appointing a Minister responsible for overseeing the affairs of Ghana’s justice sector.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News' Kwaku Asante, Dr Ayine stated that President Mahama had demonstrated a solid track record during his previous tenure in ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
“You will recall that in the course of his presidency, he did very well in ensuring that the Judiciary remained independent. The independence of the Judiciary is crucial in the administration of justice,” he remarked.
Ayine further expressed his belief that President Mahama would continue to champion the judiciary’s independence, ensuring it is well-resourced to carry out its constitutional responsibilities effectively.
Dr Ayine also emphasised that the President would work to prevent any partisan interference in the judiciary.
“And then also, ensuring that he is not packing the courts with partisan hacks who will deliver justice on the basis of partisanship, but on the basis of the fairness and merits of the cases that come before them. That is what I think a John Mahama Ministry of Justice will deliver for this country,” he concluded.
