A former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Samuel Anim Addo, has been charged for misconduct.
In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, the GFA said Mr. Anim's comments did not only constitute misconduct, but also brought the image of the Association and the Ghana Premier League into disrepute.
The GFA prosecutor cited Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, as the provisions breached by Anim Addo, who is also the president of Premier League side YoungApostles.
The charges relate to statements Anim made on social media platform X, where he alleged that referee Maxwell Hanson was engaging in "dirty work" and was a "hachet man" during a game between Accra Lions and Dreams FC.
His comments also included accusations against the GFA for their alleged involvement, claiming the Association had silenced him for raising concerns about poor officiating
Anim Addo has until Monday, January 13, 2024, to respond to the charges. His comments have sparked a wider debate on officiating in Ghanaian football, highlighting concerns over referee decisions.
