The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu has accused the Akufo-Addo government of showing no interest in investigating deaths related to elections and for failing to console families of the deceased.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on Monday, January 13, Mr. Toobu expressed his disbelief that, throughout President Akufo-Addo’s eight years in office, no meaningful efforts were made to investigate or address deaths that occurred during elections, nor had the president taken the time to offer condolences to the grieving families.

“I’m surprised,” Mr. Toobu remarked. “As president, a Ghanaian dies, and you don’t think it’s important to console the bereaved families? But that’s who we are as a people, it’s as if the lives lost don’t matter.”

Mr. Toobu further criticised the administration for its failure to investigate election-related deaths, leaving the victims' families without justice or closure.

He expressed frustration over the lack of accountability and the government’s apparent disregard for the emotional impact on the people.

Reflecting on the outcome of the 2024 general election, Mr. Toobu stated that the election results had sent a clear message from the Ghanaian people about their disapproval of the leadership. “The people of Ghana spoke in the 2024 elections to show their disapproval of the leadership we’ve had over the past eight years,” he remarked.

Mr. Toobu emphasised the need for a “reset” in the country’s leadership. He also called for investigations into the deaths related to the elections, greater transparency, and a government that takes accountability seriously.

“We need a government that listens, takes action, and shows real compassion for its people,” he said.
