The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the violent riot and the destruction of parts of the Ho Central constituency party office.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, was reportedly triggered by claims that President John Dramani Mahama has not appointed enough ministers from the Volta Region in his ongoing ministerial selections
In a press release signed by the Regional Chairman, Comrade Mawutor Agbavitor, the party described the actions of the irate individuals as alien to the values and principles of the NDC.
The statement emphasised that the NDC has always championed democracy, discipline, and constructive dialogue and would not tolerate acts of lawlessness and violence within its ranks.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and fairness, highlighting that ministerial appointments under President Mahama are guided by constitutional provisions, regional balance, and the administration's strategic vision.
According to the statement, President Mahama remains dedicated to the development of the Volta Region and the nation as a whole.
"The ongoing ministerial appointments are guided by constitutional provisions, regional balance, and the strategic vision of President Mahama, who remains deeply committed to the development of the Volta Region and the entire country," the statement read.
The party also expressed dismay over the resort to violence as a means of expressing dissatisfaction, calling it disheartening and unacceptable.
The NDC praised the swift response of security agencies in restoring order and urged them to thoroughly investigate the incident.
The statement appealed to party members, supporters, and the general public to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further heighten tensions. The party reiterated that constructive dialogue is the most effective way to address grievances and concerns.
The Volta Regional Secretariat extended its appreciation to President Mahama for the appointments made so far, emphasising that the interests of the Volta Region remain central to the NDC's agenda.
The statement assured the public of ongoing dialogue between the party leadership and stakeholders to address any legitimate concerns.
The NDC reaffirmed its dedication to upholding peace, unity, and the principles of democracy in Ghana. Party leaders pledged to engage in further discussions to address regional concerns while continuing to support President Mahama's vision for national development.
