The election of new executives to run the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) for the next four years will take centre stage today, Thursday, January 23, 2025, as representatives of various stakeholders converge at the Accra Sports Stadium for the polls.
The contest for chairman position will be a straight battle between the outgoing Vice Chairman, John Ansah and sports lawyer Isaac Wilberforce Koomson.
Both men have for a long time played various roles in the GHALCA.
Ansah, who reportedly has the backing of GFA President Kurt Okraku, is up against Koomson, a former GHALCA executive council member, who is pushing for reforms.
The chairmanship race is the highlight of the election to select new leaders for Ghana's club welfare body as the Kudjoe Fianoo-led administration's term comes to an end
In addition to the chairmanship race, there are contests for vice-chairman and Premier League club representatives, with other positions unopposed.
For vice-chairman, Phyllis Marku and Nana Amankwaa Kwakye are making history as the first two women to run for the role.
Joseph Nkoo of Asante Kotoko, GoldStars’ Fred Tindan, and Abdul Rahman Yakubu from Vision FC are the candidates for the Men's Premier League spot
Unopposed candidates include incumbent Treasurer Patrick Martey Boye for a second term, Eric Opoku for Division One League, and Gabriel Godwin Kwao for regional clubs.
The Women’s Premier League spot will go to ASP Naomi F. Abdulai, CEO of Prisons Ladies, who is also unopposed.
