Labour, Jobs and Employment Minister-designate, Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to effectively engaging Ghanaian workers through the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy.
He stated that the initiative is designed to maximise productivity and create more employment opportunities across various sectors.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, Mr Pelpuo emphasised that the policy reflects the will of the people, as it was a key proposal of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and was overwhelmingly endorsed by Ghanaians in the last election.
He described it as a transformative measure aimed at ensuring a structured and efficient labour system.
“It is a policy initiative by the present NDC government, proposed to the people of Ghana and accepted by them because they overwhelmingly approved it through their votes. It is a commitment to ensure that we engage the Ghanaian worker effectively within 24 hours,” he stated.
He further explained that under the policy, the 24-hour cycle will be structured into three distinct work shifts, each spanning eight hours.
This, he believes, will optimise labour output, ensure job creation, and contribute to economic growth by allowing businesses to operate round the clock.
