The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has called for the cooperation of candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) but whose results are being withheld, as well as the cooperation of their parents and guardians in ongoing investigations.
Waec says its investigation into alleged examination malpractices involving some candidates, for which reason the results are being withheld, is in the final phase.
The Council, with the approval of the Ghana Examinations Committee during its 37th meeting, withheld the subject results of certain candidate and initially announced it in a statement on December 30, 2024, when the provisional results were released.
According to WAEC in a new statement signed by John Kapi, Head, Public Affairs, the scrutiny of the affected scripts has been concluded, and the concerned candidates have been invited to engage with selected WAEC officials. These meetings, which require candidates to be accompanied by their parents or guardians, are aimed at affording them a fair hearing before final decisions are made on their cases.
During the meetings, candidates will be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations against them and provide written statements in the presence of their guardians. WAEC has emphasised that these interactions are conducted transparently and fairly, dismissing claims by some parents that candidates are being coerced or intimidated into writing statements.
The Council has therefore appealed to all affected candidates and their guardians to cooperate with the ongoing process to ensure swift resolution of the matter.
