Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment Dr Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has said that protecting children from child labour will be a key priority under his leadership.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointment Committee, he emphasised the importance of ensuring that children are not engaged in adult work.
“We are going to be proactive to ensure that children are not made to undertake adult tasks. They are children, not adults, and we must respect them. It is our duty to help them grow into responsible adults, not burden them with work that hinders their learning and development,” he stated.
He added that addressing child labour is a critical issue within the labour sector, and his ministry will prioritise creating an environment where children can learn and thrive without the threat of exploitation.
