The Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Davies, has described the recent raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as deeply traumatising.
Speaking on JoyNews' *Newsfile* programme on Saturday, 15th February, Frank Davies expressed concern over the distress caused the Ofori-Atta family, particularly his wife, who was present during the operation.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, 11th February 2025, when a group of individuals, including some dressed in military and police uniforms, stormed Ofori-Atta’s residence in Cantonments while ostensibly to arrest him.
It emerged later that he was out of the country.
Reports indicated that approximately 12 individuals—five in military attire, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes—conducted the raid.
At the time, Ofori-Atta was in the United States receiving medical treatment, having duly informed both the former and current Chiefs of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare and Julius Debrah, of his absence.
Following the operation, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng suggested that the raid may have been staged and subsequently declared Ofori-Atta wanted in connection with corruption-related investigations.
However, further investigations confirmed that the raid had been carried out by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
Frank Davies condemned the manner in which the operation was executed, stressing that it had caused unnecessary distress and raised serious legal and ethical concerns.
“This was a shocking and traumatising experience for Ofori-Atta’s family. No one deserves to have their home invaded in such a manner, especially in the absence of the homeowner,” he stated.
He called for greater accountability from state institutions, urging them to adhere to lawful procedures in handling investigations.
