Dr Justice Srem-Sai, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law and Deputy Attorney General designate, has called for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 15th February, he emphasised the need for transparency regarding the involvement of the National Security apparatus in the operation.
"We need to understand why National Security felt the need to raid Mr Ofori-Atta’s house in such a manner. The public deserves answers, and it is important that due process is followed in such matters," Dr Srem-Sai stated.
He further expressed concern over the distress caused to Ofori-Atta’s family, particularly as the former minister was not present at the time of the raid.
The incident, which took place on Tuesday, 11th February, 2025, saw approximately 12 individuals—five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and others in plain clothes—storm Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence.
The former minister has been in the United States for medical treatment since the beginning of the year, having officially informed both the former and current Chiefs of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare and Julius Debrah respectively.
While Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng denied his office had been part of any raid, suggesting initially that the raid may have been staged, it was later confirmed to have been conducted by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
