The Sunyani District Court ‘B’ on Monday reviewed the bail condition of suspect Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, thereby permitting the former Employment and Labour Minister to travel or leave the Sunyani Municipality without any limitation.
However, the court presided by Eric Daning ordered the suspect who is on GH¢500,000 bail to report himself to the Police once every week, instead of thrice a week.
Suspect Baffour-Awuah, also the owner of the Nsoatreman FC, and seven other suspects are standing trial in connection with the gruesome murder of the late Francis Frimpong, a supporter of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, popularly known as ‘Pooley’.
When the case was heard, the court also reviewed their bail conditions and asked suspects Joseph Kyeremeh, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwaa and Yaa Asantewaa to report to the Police once a week and they are also free to leave or travel outside the Sunyani Municipality.
All the suspects have since been charged with “abetment to commit crime, to wit murder” under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29) and they would reappear before the court on March 10, 2025.
However, the court denied three other suspects, Isaac Fosu, Augustine Yeboah and Yaw Koshy, who have been charged with murder, bail and ordered the Police to keep them in custody and they would reappear on March 3, 2025.
Briamer, another suspect charged with murder is still on the run, but the court granted GH¢300,000 bail with two sureties to suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu, a Police inspector charged with murder.
The court asked suspect Owussu to report himself to the Police every day and deposit his passport to the court registry within three days.
“Pooley” was stabbed to death on Sunday, February 2, 2025, when the Nsoatreman FC hosted the Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at match 19 of the Ghana Premier League at their home grounds at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II stadium.
