President John Dramani Mahama has extended his appreciation to Parliament for the swift vetting and confirmation of his ministerial nominees, describing the process as an exceptional milestone in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
He commended lawmakers for their dedication and efficiency, which ensured a smooth transition in governance.
Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term on Thursday, 27th February 2025, President Mahama acknowledged the collaborative spirit between the executive and the legislature.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Parliament for the timely vetting and approval of my ministerial nominees. This level of efficiency is unparalleled in the history of the Fourth Republic,” he remarked.
The President noted that such cooperation is essential for national development, as it ensures that government machinery functions without delay.
He highlighted that when the executive and legislature work in harmony, governance becomes more effective, benefiting the Ghanaian people.
Over the past weeks, Parliament’s Appointments Committee has been actively scrutinising nominees, culminating in the approval of key ministers on 21st January 2025.
Among those confirmed were Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson as Minister for Finance, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor as Minister for Energy, and Dr Dominic Akruitinga Ayine as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
Mahama further urged lawmakers to extend the same level of diligence and urgency to the vetting of his deputy ministerial nominees.
He emphasised that a fully constituted government is crucial for implementing policies and delivering on the administration’s commitments to Ghanaians.
