Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for offering him a rare opportunity to serve in his government as Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the presidency.
“I promise to commit every bit of my knowledge, skills, experience and energy to this new role to deliver on his vision,” Dr Otokunor said in a statement.
Dr Otokunor is an agricultural economist and a chartered financial economist, politician, a policy analyst, and lecturer.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana, a Chartered Financial Economist and a Fellow Chartered Economist of the Association of Certified and Chartered Economists (ACCE) and a Member of the Association of the Association of Certified and Chartered Economists (ACCE).
He also holds an honorary Doctorate in Executive Leadership from New England University – United States, as well as a Diploma in Youth Development from the International Training College of the International Labour Organization, Turin – Italy, a Master of Arts degree in Economic Policy Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture (Animal Science) all from University of Ghana, Legon.
He has over 20 years of working experience in the public and private sector.
He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Economics and Actuarial Science of the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
He recently served as a Deputy General Secretary (Operations) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Secretary General of the African Leftist Party Schools Union (ALPSU).
He is currently the Director of Inter-party and Civil Society Relations for the NDC and a member of the NDC Elections Directorate.
In public service, he distinguished himself as the Head of Research at the Communications Directorate at the Office of the President under the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills and subsequently served as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) of Ghana.
He was a Deputy Campaign Manager for the 2020 NDC-John Mahama Campaign and led the Operations Sub-Committee of the 2012 NDC John Mahama Campaign.
He was the Secretary to the NDC 2016 Manifesto Committee and a member of the 2020 and 2024 Manifesto Committees of the NDC.
He had previously served as the Deputy Director of Research of the NDC and founding Registrar of the NDC Party School (Ghana Institute of Social Democracy – GISD).
