For the first time in history, the City of Prince George in Ontario, Canada, has raised the Ghanaian flag at City Hall to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day.
This milestone also marks the first time the flag of any African nation has been hoisted at the city’s municipal headquarters.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, President of the Ghanaian Association of Prince George, Eddie Ameh, expressed his gratitude to city officials and residents.

“We are very happy and grateful to the mayor and the people of Prince George for recognizing us and declaring a Ghana Day. This shows the city’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality,” he said.
Mr Ameh emphasised that this recognition will inspire the Ghanaian community to deepen its contributions to the city.

“We are poised to take this community to the next level by exploring ways to establish a community centre named Ghana House.
"This space will help us teach our younger generation about their heritage, including language, culture, and history, ensuring they remain connected to their roots.”

The flag-raising ceremony stands as a symbol of the growing recognition of Ghanaian culture in Prince George and a testament to the city’s embrace of multiculturalism.
