The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has defended the agency’s decision to introduce two separate mobile applications to improve job access in Ghana.

His comments come in response to public criticism over the need for two different apps instead of a single platform.

Reacting to the concerns on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Mr Basintale explained that the two apps are designed to serve different purposes.

“The first app is specifically for artisans and skilled workers such as plumbers, carpenters, tailors, masons, and electricians. This platform will make it easier for individuals and businesses to connect with professionals, both locally and internationally,” he posted on Facebook.

He added that the initiative is part of YEA’s plans to create job opportunities abroad through a new directorate, which will be launched in the coming days.

According to Mr Basintale, the app for artisans is being developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). “YEA’s role is to provide trained skilled workers, while the private partner will manage the platform. This is expected to create over 100,000 jobs in the informal sector,” he noted.

The second app, he said, is YEA’s own Job Centre, which will link job seekers with employers across various industries. Unlike the first app, which focuses on artisans, the Job Center will serve a wider range of job seekers.

“This app will be easy to use, so anyone in Ghana can search for jobs without needing IT expertise,” Mr Basintale assured.

He also stressed that both apps will not cost YEA anything, addressing concerns about potential financial burdens on the agency.
