The Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo, Vicent Ekow Assafuah, has stated that he did not know the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, until the Minister for Justice and Attorney General (AG), Dr Dominic Ayine, spoke about the alleged corruption he is involved in.
Speaking on JoyNews' AM Show on Tuesday, a day after the AG held a press conference to address the alleged corrupt practices, the MP explained that, despite the accused having worked under his government, he had never heard of him during the eight years the NPP was in power.
"In fact, until yesterday [Monday], I had not even heard of Kwabena. I don’t even know him, even though he served as CEO or Director-General under my government," he said.
He condemned the alleged crimes and asserted that he would never support anyone involved in corrupt activities, especially once the allegations are proven.
"I will never hold brief for anybody who is found to be engaging in corruption. From what I have seen, it is scary, and I will not support it if these allegations are to be true that indeed you siphon state resources into your personal accounts"
Dr Dominic Ayine revealed that Adu-Boahene embezzled millions of dollars intended for a cyber defence project and diverted them into real estate investments in Accra and overseas.
He allegedly used a private company he secretly operated with his wife to siphon funds from a government contract, amassing significant personal wealth over the years.
Authorities have now compiled a detailed list of properties, bank transactions, and luxury assets suspected to have been acquired through fraudulent means.
