Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called for more resources for the National Media Commission (NMC) to tackle what he describes as growing indiscipline in the media.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, March 27, he stressed the need for stronger monitoring and regulation to curb irresponsible broadcasting and personal attacks in the media space.
“There is a lot of indiscipline in our media spaces. The media is a tool, and we all know how important it is. It is the fourth realm of the state. However, I think the NMC needs to be strengthened so it can be more effective in tracking the activities of media houses,” he said.
He noted that the increasing number of radio stations across the country has overwhelmed the Commission, making it difficult to regulate content effectively.
"There are a number of radio stations all over the country now, and I think the NMC is a bit overwhelmed. This is a matter we have to look at. Otherwise, one day, we will wake up and realise we are not happy with what is happening because people are becoming more irresponsible, making all manner of comments and personal attacks. It is unjustifiable,” he added.
