A groundbreaking collaboration between the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) and Abibitumi and RepatriateToGhana (R2GH) has been implemented to facilitate the successful repatriation, citizenship acquisition and economic empowerment for black people worldwide.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding which marks the first official UNIA Embassy on the African continent fulfills a key vision of the Nana Marcus Garvey's call for reparation and global black unity.

Marcus Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association in 1914, dedicated to racial pride, economic self-sufficiency, and the formation of an independent Black nation in Africa.

It was the largest black organization in history with millions of members across the world advocating for black independence.

His call for Africans to return to Africa and build a strong black nation was a revolutionary challenge to colonial rule, white supremacy and economic dependency on foreign systems.

Speaking at the ceremony to sign the MoU at the Abibitumi headquarters in Akuapem-Mampong, the founder and president of Abibitumi, Obengfo (Professor) Obadele Kambon said the collaboration is a direct answer to creating an official space where black people from the diaspora can repatriate, organise, and build a future for themselves and generations yet unborn.

"This agreement signifies that Garvey's movement is not just history, but an active and growing force - moving beyond ideology into tangible land ownership, economic development, and self-governance for Black people on the continent," he said.

Obengfo (Professor) Obadele Kambon, who is a chief at Mampong with the stool name Nana Kwame Pabi Darteh, already has a track record of collaborating with then President John Mahama in 2016 to grant citizenship to the African-Caribbean diaspora.

On his part, the President General of UNIA, Michael Duncan observe the collaboration is historical and a serves as a platform to unite diasporas whose trace their ancestral home to Africa.

"This is historical, we haven't seen anything like this since Garvey created UNIA, promoting unity among our people. This is leadership, I mean leadership that knows no price, leadership that is honest, and most importantly leadership from the ranks of UNIA.

"Africa is Africa, those at home and abroad, and this is what we promoting between Abibitumi and UNIA," he explained.

The event was attended by the members of UNIA and traditional authorities from Akuapem.

The Adumhene of Akuapem, Nana Osae Adade III, commended Abibitumi and UNIA collaboration in making sure black diasporas experience smooth repatriation and economic empowerment support in their country of origin.
