The immediate past Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has strongly refuted claims regarding missing containers at the Tema Port.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mahama stated that there is no way a container could go missing at the port.
He explained that containers can only be misplaced or lost at sea, but they are traceable using their unique identification numbers.
“Even if it is lost at sea, you will be notified because it has a unique number that can be tracked anywhere. So did they track the numbers and didn’t find them, or are they just resorting to the physical count?” he questioned, adding that the system in place makes tracking straightforward.
Mahama further clarified that the only container-related issue during his tenure was an auction carried out by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and he had attempted to halt it.
Describing the allegations as a “witch-hunt,” he emphasised that once the containers are in the custody of Customs and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), there is no reason for ECG to be implicated in the controversy.
“Containers that are in the custody of Customs and Ghana Ports and Harbours, what does that have to do with ECG? Did the containers get missing in the custody of ECG?” Mahama stated.
