Two friends have been jailed for three years each by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for stealing five sliding window frames valued at GH¢2,500.00 at Abuakwa-Abakomadi.
Yaw Paul, 28, the driver’s mate and Stephen Boakye, alias ‘Destiny’, 23, mechanic apprentice, pleaded guilty and were convicted on their plea.
Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisah, prosecuting, told the court presided by Jephthah Appau that, the accused persons were close friends who resided at Abuakwa-Maakro, whiles the complainant, George Osei, was an aluminum fabricator and resident of Abakomadi.
He said on April 13, this year, a witness in the case, who is a police officer on duty at IPT snap check point on the Abuakwa- Kumasi stretch stopped a pragia rider with the accused persons on board.
He explained that the witness observed the five sliding window frames in the vehicle and questioned the rider, Isaac Amankwah and he answered that the accused had hired him to transport them to Abrepo junction in Kumasi.
According to the Prosecution, the witness questioned the accused persons, and they couldn’t give any tangible answer, so they were sent to the Tanoso police station.
After a thorough enquiry, they confessed to having stolen the items from Abakomadi.
On April 14, they were taken to the crime scene, and the complainant showed up, identified the frames and claimed ownership.
The accused persons also admitted in their caution statement and were therefore charged after further investigations and brought before the court.
