The Ghana Police Service, in close collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has successfully rescued two female victims who were abducted and later appeared in a widely circulated distressing video.
The harrowing footage, which depicted the victims being mistreated, sparked widespread outrage and raised alarm across both countries.
Following an intensive joint operation, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Arrests were executed in both Ghana and Nigeria, where suspects were found hiding in various locations.
The operation demonstrated strong cross-border cooperation between the security agencies.
A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service confirmed the rescue of the victims and the detention of the suspects.
Authorities indicated that additional details surrounding the operation would be disclosed as investigations progress.
“The Ghana Police Service extends its heartfelt gratitude to the National Signals Bureau and the Nigeria Police Force for their invaluable support and cooperation in both the rescue and arrest operations,” the statement noted.
The incident involved Ama Serwaa Konadu, a 39-year-old hairdresser and event decorator from Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region. She was reportedly abducted on Tuesday, 22nd April, after leaving home for work.
The following day, her captors circulated multiple nude videos showing her being assaulted with a machete. The kidnappers, claiming to be holding her in Nigeria, demanded a ransom of GH₵500,000 for her release.
Her family promptly reported the matter to the police and other relevant security agencies, providing the videos to aid in the investigation.
