The Western North Regional Police Command has launched a robust enforcement operation to tackle the growing menace of road crashes linked to the reckless use of motorcycles and tricycles.
In a statement, the police stated that the special operation, which began on May 28, 2025, in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, was led by DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi.
It said the initiative targeted unregistered tricycles, unlicensed riders, and individuals engaging in dangerous behaviour on the road.

The police stated that several offenders were arrested during the exercise and subsequently arraigned before the District Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng.
Upon admitting to the charges, the offenders were sentenced to seven days in prison with hard labour and handed fines, indicating that those unable to pay the fines will serve an additional 90 days in jail with hard labour.
The police stated that the move is aimed at curbing the increasing rate of avoidable accidents caused by lawless riding practices. Authorities hope that the harsh penalties will deter other riders from flouting traffic laws.
The Regional Command has assured the public that such enforcement drives will be sustained to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic regulations throughout the region.
