Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Defence Minister and Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 polls, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a re-run in the disputed polling stations of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election.
His appeal, made in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 5, follows a petition by Parliament’s Minority Caucus demanding police intervention over the EC’s delay in declaring final results.
In his statement, Dr Omane Boamah emphasised the need for transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to electoral laws in resolving the impasse.
He urged the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission to uphold fairness by re-running the elections in the contested polling stations, noting that the EC currently lacks the necessary pink sheets to confirm results.
“Let’s draw lessons from the SALL elections debacle, where four significant traditional areas were denied parliamentary representation for years because of the actions and inactions of the NPP and the Electoral Commission,” he warned.
Dr Omane Boamah further stressed that “every vote counts, every voice is heard, and every citizen is represented,” underlining the importance of inclusive democratic processes.
The call for a re-run comes amid rising tensions as the Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant for several months due to unresolved disputes over election results.
