An expectant mother sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has given birth at the Asenua Presbyterian JHS exams centre in the Ashanti Region.
The student went into labor during the writing of the ICT examination, the second paper for the day.
According to an eyewitness, Osomafo Kwasi Adjei, a policewoman escorting the candidate to the washroom noticed the distress.
“The policewoman after noticing the stress, drew the attention of authorities who helped take the student to an office at the centre to deliver,” he said.
Some elderly women within the community intervened to aid the student in safe delivery.
The candidate and her baby were subsequently taken to a private health facility for medical attention.
Joy News investigations reveal the student had been out of school for weeks prior to the examination.
The headteacher of the teenager’s school managed to convince her to sit for the examination.
