Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku admitted he was caught off guard by how impressive Golden Kick were following the MTN FA Cup final on Sunday, June 14.
Opoku scored twice in the final at the University of Ghana Stadium as the Porcupine Warriors picked up a 2-1 win against the Division One League side, sealing a 10th FA Cup title.
Despite Kotoko being the winners, Golden Kick gave a good account of themselves with an impressive performance, which shocked many, including the match winner.
"I am very happy [we won] because we never thought they would give us a game like this. They played very well," he told Joy Sports.
"In all we give thanks to God [for the victory]."
The trophy is Opoku's first for the club, an achievement which leaves him fulfilled.
"I am a happy man because in my first season, I wanted to do something for Asante Kotoko and unfortunately, I left," he added.
"So in my second stint, I needed to prove a point; to do something for my darling club."
The MTN FA Cup win means Kotoko will return to Africa, their first since 2021, to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
