A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has declared the former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most experienced and exposed candidate in the NPP’s flagbearer race, making him the party’s most prepared and marketable choice for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr. Botchway stated that Dr Bawumia’s record of political consistency, national visibility, and grassroots engagement places him far ahead of other contenders in the internal contest.
“Dr Bawumia has participated in five consecutive general elections since 2008,” he said.
"He was the NPP’s Vice-Presidential candidate in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. In 2024, he leads as the Presidential Candidate. That level of consistency is unmatched."
He argued that this consistency is a key ingredient for political success, referencing the careers of Presidents John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Akufo-Addo, who both secured the presidency after multiple attempts.
“President Mills lost in 2004 and came back to win in 2008. President Akufo-Addo also won in 2016 after defeats in 2008 and 2012. These stories show that perseverance and consistency matter. Dr Bawumia is following that path.”
He highlighted Dr Bawumia’s extensive nationwide reach, describing him as one of the most visible politicians in Ghana today.
“He has toured this country more than 25 times some say close to 30. From Axim to Zebilla, he’s known everywhere. Even schoolchildren know his name.”
He also pointed out the gap in public presence between Dr Bawumia and other aspirants in the race.
“With all due respect, I don’t think any of the other candidates have even toured 100 constituencies. Dr Bawumia has done so consistently—and he’s done it with humility and results.”
Mr. Botchway concluded by emphasising that, in terms of political strength and electability, Dr Bawumia is in a league of his own.
“When it comes to national appeal, visibility, and proven leadership, no one else in this race comes close. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is clearly the most prepared and electable candidate the NPP can present in 2028.”
