The Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region has been thrown into mourning following the death of its newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu.
Family sources confirmed to MyJoyOnline that the MCE passed away in Accra after battling a protracted illness. He was sworn into office in April 2025.
According to relatives, Alhaji Muazu had been unwell prior to his appointment and had sought medical care at several health facilities across the country.
His passing comes as a major blow to the Lawra community, which is still reeling from the tragic drowning of seven students from Lawra Senior High School at the Dikpe River, a tributary of the Black Volta.
Alhaji Muazu's final public assignment as MCE was during a visit by members of the Upper West Regional Security Council to commiserate with the school and the bereaved families following the tragic incident.

Professionally, Alhaji Muazu was a teacher and businessman. He was also the founder of Superteck Digital Studios, a multimedia company.
He was part of the final batch of the old secondary school system at Wa Secondary School, completing in 1994.
Alhaji Adam Muazu was 53 years old. He is survived by three wives and seven children.
His body is expected to be flown to Lawra via Wa today, Tuesday, June 24, and will be buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.
