The management of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra has commended the government for restoring the Founder's Day holiday in honour of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
They identified the passage of the National Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill as a historical justice and reaffirmation of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's "indisputable legacy" as the one who engineered and fueled Ghana's independence, making him the true founder of Ghana.
“As in all cases, while we note that others may have contributed in various ways to Ghana's political development, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains peerless in Ghana's political history”, stated a communique signed by Ag. Executive Director, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Dr. Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh.
He said that Dr. Nkrumah’s singular focus on "self-governance now" inspired an uproar for independence on the African continent, to break from colonial political rule in the 1950s.
“We commend the government for this singular decision, which exemplifies in more ways than one, the government's determination to correct historical distortions and assert Dr. Nkrumah's status as the founder of our beloved nation, Ghana!”, he said.
He entreated the government, parliament and other relevant institutions to enact laws preventing future governments from changing or revising the holiday.
“We would now call on the government, parliament, and the Constitutional Review Committee to take steps to entrench Founder’s Day in law, to safeguard it from future political revisionism and historical distortions. The legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah must be preserved for posterity untainted and undiluted”, he said.
Dr. Nunyonameh extended an invitation to all and sundry to add the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra to their bucket list when planning tourism tours to have the opportunity to learn about the legacy of the African hero.
“We also take this opportunity to invite Ghanaians, Africans, and the global community to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra for an immersive experience in the life, work, and legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah”, he concluded.
