The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has become the focus of renewed national and international attention as the Vice President of the Republic of Colombia, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, paid a visit to the historic site during her tour of Ghana.
Officials say the high-profile engagement is expected to boost tourism and further project the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and a strong advocate for African unity.

The visit, according to the Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Collins Rawlings, goes beyond a symbolic stop.

He explained that it reaffirms Nkrumah’s perseverance in championing unity across the African continent and strengthens Ghana’s diplomatic ties with Colombia at a time when both nations are seeking deeper cooperation.

“We have always hosted high-level visits to the country, but this is exceptional. The Vice President of Colombia’s visit reaffirms Kwame Nkrumah’s Pan-Africanist ideals. This engagement will help strengthen Ghana’s relationship with Colombia and boost tourism in Ghana," he stated.

According to him, the growing interest from global leaders positions the Memorial Park as one of Ghana’s most significant tourist destinations and offers a major opportunity for the country to attract international attention to its cultural and historical heritage.

“This is where the story of Ghana’s independence is preserved,” he said, highlighting the park’s central role in promoting the nation’s history.

As the festive season begins, Mr Rawlings is encouraging Ghanaians to take advantage of the holidays to visit the park, noting that increased patronage will help promote tourism and contribute to national development.
“As we enter the festive season, I want to encourage Ghanaians to visit the park with their families. Your patronage helps promote tourism and contributes directly to our national development,” Collins Rawlings said.
The visit by Francia Elena Márquez Mina not only highlights the global relevance of Ghana’s historic landmarks but also signals a renewed commitment to deepening bilateral relations between Ghana and Colombia.

As the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park continues to attract international attention, officials remain hopeful that the momentum generated by this visit will translate into increased tourism and greater appreciation of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
