The motorsport movement in Ghana began just eight years ago, driven by the passion of three visionary individuals: Dr. Clement Dodoo, Dr. Nana Kwame Asante Appiah, and Mr. Samuel M. Opoku-Agyemang (Kwabena POKU).
It all started with a WhatsApp group created by Dr. Dodoo to connect Formula 1 fans across Ghana.
What began as casual race conversations quickly grew into a vibrant community. With the involvement of Dr. Nana Kwame and Kwabena POKU, the movement gained momentum—laying the groundwork for the creation of the Motorsport Federation of Ghana, now the official body championing motorsport development in the country.
From watch parties to full-scale fan activations, Ghana’s F1 fan base has grown into one of the most exciting in West Africa. Today, the Federation is focused on long-term development through two flagship projects.
The first is grassroots go-karting infrastructure aimed at training and nurturing young talent through accessible, FIA-standard karting facilities.
The second is the STEM and Schools Motorsport Programme, which promotes motorsport as a learning tool by launching inter-schools and colleges go-karting competitions, and using racing to inspire STEM education.
This journey would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our partners and sponsors, both past and present.
We extend our deepest appreciation to DStv Ghana, our major partner and long-standing supporter of the F1 movement. Heineken, through Diageo Ghana, and Guinness Ghana played a key role in fuelling fan experiences, while Monster Energy, under the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana, brought energy to our early events.
Labadi Beach Hotel provided a luxurious home for several key activations, and Starbites Ghana consistently kept the motorsport family refreshed. Shell, represented by Vivo Energy Ghana, has been a strong champion of innovation in motorsport. Mercedes-Benz, through CFAO Ghana, and Petronas, through Engen Ghana, have also added their elite brand presence to our efforts.
Silverbird Cinemas Ghana has hosted major F1 screenings and premieres, helping to elevate fan engagement. Joy 99.7 FM by Multimedia Ghana, Sporty FM, and Asaase Radio have been instrumental in amplifying the F1 community’s voice across the airwaves.
The F1 Experience platform has helped shape and enhance the fan journey in Ghana. On the global front, the Presidential Court of the UAE embraced Ghana’s motorsport vision and helped extend its reach internationally.
A special shout-out goes to Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, former Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, whose early support proved invaluable.
To everyone who believed in the dream from day one—thank you. We’re only just getting started. The next lap is about grassroots development, youth engagement, and building Ghana’s motorsport legacy from the ground up.
