The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced an advancement in the country's upstream petroleum sector with the official Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4).
The declaration, submitted on 3rd July 2025, was made by a consortium of Joint Venture (JV) Partners comprising Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco), in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
This submission follows the successful completion of an appraisal programme confirming the commercial viability of hydrocarbon resources in the Eban-1X (oil) and Akoma-1X (gas and condensate) wells.
Describing the declaration as a pivotal development, Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor said it affirms the government’s commitment to the sustainable development of the nation’s hydrocarbon assets.
“It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda,” he stated.
Following this milestone, the JV Partners are expected to prepare a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD) aimed at ensuring optimal resource recovery, value maximisation, and increased local content in line with national policy objectives.
The Ministry, in partnership with the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, has pledged to provide oversight and support to ensure the Eban-Akoma project is implemented effectively and in alignment with Ghana’s long-term energy strategy.
This development underscores the government’s dedication to nurturing a transparent, resilient, and investor-friendly energy sector that delivers sustainable value to the Ghanaian people.
