The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured the conviction and sentencing of three armed robbery suspects involved in a violent attack at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Wednesday, July 9, the suspects—Mamudu Issah (18), Samuel Takyi (18), and Alhassan Abubakari (18), were arrested following a robbery carried out on July 1, 2025.
The statement said the trio, armed with machetes and riding unregistered motorbikes, attacked residents between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., making away with mobile phones, bags, and cash.
Police stated that the swift intervention of community volunteers in the Aboabo area led to the arrest of the suspects later that day. The volunteers also turned over 10 stolen mobile phones and three bags believed to have been taken during the robbery.
The suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, where they all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of causing harm.
Issah was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for each robbery charge and an additional three years for causing harm, all to run concurrently. His accomplices, Samuel Takyi and Alhassan Abubakari, were each handed 10-year sentences for their robbery charges, also to run concurrently.
The convicts have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin their jail terms.
The Police expressed appreciation to the public and the volunteers for their swift assistance and urged continued cooperation in fighting crime.
“We continue to encourage the public to support policing efforts and promptly report suspicious activities,” the statement concluded.
