St. Charles Minor Seminary SHS cruised to a commanding victory in the second contest of the Northern Regional Qualifiers of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), confidently dismissing their challengers and describing the contest as “too simple.”
The Tamale-based Catholic boys’ school finished with an impressive 46 points, far ahead of Vitting SHS, which scored 27 points, and Bimbilla SHS, which trailed with 13 points.
Speaking after the contest, a member of the St. Charles team explained their dominance, attributing the ease of their win not to substandard questions but to the gap in competitiveness.
“The contest was too simple because our opponents weren’t good enough. If they were, they would have won it,” the contestant said.
St. Charles Continues NSMQ Dominance

The victory secures St. Charles yet another appearance at the NSMQ national championship, reinforcing their growing reputation as one of the Northern Region’s most consistent and dependable contenders.
Vitting SHS made a notable attempt to challenge St. Charles, particularly in the middle rounds, but ultimately could not close the gap. While the school has yet to qualify for the nationals, its performance reflected clear improvement from past contests.

Bimbilla SHS struggled to find their rhythm throughout the competition. Despite flashes of effort, they were unable to build enough momentum to remain competitive. Both Vitting and Bimbilla SHS, however, remain hopeful of breaking onto the national stage in the not-too-distant future.
St. Charles now joins the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) as one of the schools officially heading to the 2025 NSMQ national championship.
With more contests ahead, the race continues to determine the Northern Region’s best representatives.
