The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested three men in connection with a daring gold robbery near the town of Jukwa, close to Afransie, on Monday, 15th July 2025.
According to a statement shared on Facebook by the Ghana Police Service, the suspects were apprehended following a swift response to a robbery involving a Toyota Hilux pickup, registration number GT 7426-23, which was ambushed while transporting gold concentrate from a mining site to Wassa Akropong.
The vehicle, which was attacked just outside Jukwa, had three occupants at the time: the driver, identified as Kofi Gyamfi; a security guard, Bashiru; and one unnamed passenger. The robbers made away with the valuable gold cargo.
Police say one of the suspects, Foster Peprah, a known small-scale miner, was arrested at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that he had carried out the attack with an accomplice known only as Isaac, who is currently on the run.
During questioning, Peprah reportedly confessed that the robbery had been orchestrated by the driver, Kofi Gyamfi, who had tipped them off and invited them to intercept the vehicle. Gyamfi was subsequently arrested, and during interrogation, he identified the security guard, Bashiru, as the mastermind behind the operation.
Bashiru was later tracked down and arrested at his hideout in Wassa Gyedua.
All three men are now in police custody and are said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations. Authorities have launched a manhunt for Isaac, who remains at large.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on criminal networks operating in the mining areas and has urged the public to volunteer any information that could assist in the capture of the remaining suspect.
