One of the accused persons, Mildred Donkor, in the ongoing National Signals Bureau (NSB) scandal, has declined legal representation by prominent New Patriotic Party lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea.
Appearing before the court on Friday, July 18, Mrs Donkor stated that she does not wish to be represented by Mr Atta Akyea, who is currently acting as legal counsel for all the accused persons in the case involving the alleged stealing of GH¢49 million.
The Attorney General in April this year charged the former Director-General of NSB, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife, Mrs. Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited for stealing contrary to Section 124 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
A Chronicle newspaper reporter, Bernice Bessey, present in the courtroom, told Joy FM that the presiding judge asked Mrs Donkor whether she had legal representation.
In response, Mrs Donkor openly declared that she had no lawyer and expressed his wish to be assigned new counsel, this, notably, in the presence of Mr Atta Akyea.
"It was a mixed reaction" for Mr Atta Akyea at the Court, the reporter noted.
