As part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Kwabena Kwabena’s debut album Asor, his management team has revealed plans to release a star-studded remix of the title track.
Nana Poku Ashis, manager of the celebrated highlife artiste, confirmed in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM's Daybreak Hitz that the remix will feature some of Ghana’s finest musicians to match the legacy of the original song.
“It’s an all-star project. It’s a star-studded song. You see, Asor is that huge, so if you want to touch it, you have to touch it well or leave it,” Ashis said.
He added that the intention is not to chase trends but to create something timeless.
“It’s not the type of song you just want to trend. It is that song that you want that evergreen thing back again. You want longevity, so it needs to be people who understand music, like Okyeame Kwame. It has to be there,” he explained.
The remix forms part of a series of events to mark two decades since the release of Asor, the project that launched Kwabena Kwabena into the limelight in 2004.
The anniversary celebration also includes a world tour, with performances across Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. The concerts, set to begin in August 2025, will be held in more intimate settings to allow the highlife star to connect more closely with his audience.
Confirmed tour dates are: 24th August – London, UK, 6th September – Bremen, Germany, 27th September – Accra, Ghana, 4th October – Takoradi, Ghana, 12th October – Washington D.C., USA, and 22nd November – Sydney, Australia.
Additional shows in Kumasi and Amsterdam are in the works, with dates to be announced soon.
The Asor anniversary project is expected to highlight Kwabena Kwabena’s enduring influence in Ghanaian music, celebrating not only his past work but also his ongoing contribution to highlife and live performance.
