Four of the seven accused persons standing trial in the high-profile Republic v. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid & 9 others case are still in police custody after failing to meet their bail conditions by the close of day on Friday, July 25, 2025.
The individuals still detained are identified as Jacob Amuah (A2), Albert Ankrah (A4), Bright Bediako-Mensah (A6), and Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah (A7).
The bail conditions set by the court involve a combination of monetary bail bonds, sureties, and reporting requirements to law enforcement.
Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), is the first accused in the case involving 10 individuals and corporate entities accused of orchestrating a widespread corruption scheme within the petroleum sector between 2022 and 2024.
Two others have also managed to secure bail.
They are Wendy Newman and Isaac Mensah, released on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
The accused are alleged to have benefited from a coordinated scheme that targeted Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs), allegedly laundering proceeds through the purchase of luxury vehicles, properties, and fuel stations.
The case, which has drawn significant public interest, has been adjourned to 26 August 2025, when substantive hearings are expected to begin.
