President John Mahama has announced that his administration is rolling out strategic interventions to support year-round agricultural production and feed Ghana’s emerging agro-industrial sector under the 24-hour economy policy.
Speaking at the launch of the National Agribusiness Dialogue at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on Monday, 28th July, the President outlined a comprehensive plan comprising the Feed the Industry Initiative, Rapid Industrialisation Initiative, and Accelerated Export Development Programme.
“These initiatives, led by the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, form the foundation of the 24-hour economy policy and are designed to unlock massive potential across multiple sectors,” President Mahama said.
He emphasised that moving from single-season farming to all-year-round production is critical to sustaining industrial growth in the agricultural value chain.
To support this transition, he revealed that government is investing significantly in irrigation infrastructure to ensure consistent supply of raw materials for agribusinesses.
“Ghana has approximately 227,000 hectares of land that is engineered for irrigation. We have begun constructing new irrigation projects and are also rehabilitating existing ones,” he noted.
“This will enable us to produce agricultural raw materials throughout the year to feed our agro-industry,” he added.
