A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament on Tuesday, August 5, picked up nomination forms on behalf of NPP presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The delegation included the MP for Obuasi West, Kwaku Kwarteng; Charles Forson of Tema West; Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso; and Lawrence Agyinsam, MP for Hemang Lower Denkyira.
They were joined by Dr Alex Ampaabeng, a former Deputy Minister for Finance in the Akufo-Addo administration, who has publicly endorsed Kennedy Agyapong as the right candidate to lead the NPP and Ghana into the future.
“As the momentum builds toward the January 31st primary, it is becoming increasingly clear which key figures are aligning with the major contenders in the race,” a party insider remarked.
Mr. Agyapong, who previously contested the NPP’s flagbearership before the 2024 elections and placed second to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, becomes the first aspirant to pick up nomination forms for the 2026 contest, marking an early and strategic move in the run-up to the 2028 general elections.
