The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior has pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of the findings from the ongoing investigation into the August 6 military helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two ministers of state.
In a statement on Friday, August 8, the Committee commended the Ghana Armed Forces for swiftly initiating a multi-agency probe into the tragedy, which occurred in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
“We commit to thoroughly reviewing the findings once available and providing our recommendations to strengthen aviation safety, operational protocols, and crisis response across our security sector,” the Committee said.
The crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong; NADMO Deputy Director-General Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
As this loss strikes at the heart of our nation's military leadership, the Committee stated that they stand in solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government, Parliament of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana during this solemn time.
The Committee further said it would honour the fallen by redoubling efforts to retool the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance operational efficiency.
"May the departed souls rest in perfect peace, and may their families find strength and comfort during this difficult time," the statement added.
