The Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, led a solemn wreath-laying ceremony by the Authority at the Jubilee House in Accra to honour the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the military helicopter crash on August 6.

Joining Dr Bampoe were the NHIA’s Deputy Chief Executive for Administration & Human Resources, Mr Raphael Segkpeb; Director of Legal, Annette Obenewaa Adutwum; Director of Administration, Mr Raymond Avinu; acting Deputy Director of Provider and Client Relations, Mrs Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu; Executive Assistant, Mrs Nina Amoah-Buabeng; and selected NHIA staff.

In remarks following the ceremony, Dr Bampoe expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and reiterated NHIA’s support for the government and nation during this period of profound grief.

He recalled a recent interaction with Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah at the African Health Sovereignty Summit, sitting beside him, and described the tragedy as “unfathomable.”

Dr Bampoe stressed the importance of recognising public servants while they are still alive, noting that the fallen had been gallant in their service. He urged that their contributions not be forgotten and emphasised the need to honour their memory meaningfully.

The wreath-laying was held as part of a three-day period of national mourning declared by President John Dramani Mahama following the crash, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman, Dr Samuel Sarpong; acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; NADMO’s Deputy Director-General of Operations, Samuel Aboagye; and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
President Mahama has scheduled an inter-denominational state funeral at Black Star Square for Friday, August 15, 2025, to pay final tribute to the national heroes who perished tragically in service to their country
