Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed sorrow following the passing of Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom.
Dr. Bawumia joined His Majesty the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman Council, and the entire Asanteman in mourning the revered monarch.
In a heartfelt Facebook post today (August 11), Dr. Bawumia conveyed his deep personal grief, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that I join His Majesty the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman Council and Asanteman in mourning the passing of our dearest Queen Mother, Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III."
He eulogised the late Queen Mother as a figure of immense significance, highlighting her steadfast character throughout her reign.
"Nana, throughout her reign, remained an enduring symbol of unity, grace, and candour," Dr. Bawumia wrote.
The former Vice President also shared personal reflections on the Queen Mother's impactful presence in his life. He underscored her compassionate nature, noting, "Her sense of compassion and open arms received many, of whom I am proud to have been part."
Dr. Bawumia added that her wisdom and spiritual support were a constant source of strength: "Her words of encouragement and counsel, just as her prayers, have been a source of strength for me."
Concluding his tribute, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the deep, familial void left by her demise, stating, "We have lost a mother, not just the queen mother." He then offered the traditional Asante lamentation, "Ohemaa Konadu Yiadom, Due. Asanteman Damirifa Due."
The Asantehemaa holds a pivotal role in the Asante Kingdom, serving as a co-ruler with the Asantehene and holding significant spiritual and traditional authority. Her passing marks a moment of profound sorrow for the Asante people and the nation at large.
