Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tanko Computer, has clarified that businessman Richard Jakpa’s presence in Akwatia is not linked to the impending by-election.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 30, Mr Computer stressed that Jakpa is in the constituency for “special duties” unrelated to political contestations.
“There have been suggestions that Richard Jakpa is working in connection with the by-election, but that is simply not the case.
He has his own assignments, and these have nothing to do with the electoral process in Akwatia,” Mr Computer explained.
He cautioned against politicising private or unrelated engagements, warning that such misrepresentations could stoke needless tension.
Mr Computer further emphasised that the NDC remains focused on campaigning within the law and cooperating with security agencies to ensure a peaceful exercise.
“We do not want distractions. Our attention is on the issues that matter to the people of Akwatia—development, jobs, and fairness in the conduct of the election,” he said.
He urged political actors and the public to avoid dragging individuals into partisan disputes without evidence.
“At this sensitive time, any attempt to link personalities to security concerns or electoral manipulations can inflame passions. Let us keep the discourse grounded in facts,” Mr Computer added.
