On the occasion of the re-launch of the National Sanitation Day in Madina near Accra, President John Dramani Mahama, has hailed the Buz Stop Boys for their voluntarism spirit towards cleaning the nation’s towns and cities.
The President, on behalf of the Government, presented 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms and standing brooms, 300 hand gloves, 280 standing brushes, 20 short brushes and 300 plastic buckets to the Buz Stop Boys.
This was in recognition of their activities and to facilitate their work.
“I encountered them last year because I saw them on social media. And they call themselves the Buz Stop Boys. So I want to commend them,” he stated.
The President said, he came across their activities somewhere in 2024 on social media, during which they were appealing for support, which led to him supporting them with a tricycle to help facilitate their work.
“We want to honour these selfless community spirited young people who for several years have been using their own resources, their energy and strength to continue to volunteer to keep our cities clean,” he stated.
Mr Heneba Kwadwo Sarfo, the Founder and Leader of the Buz Stop Boys, on behalf of the group, expressed gratitude to the President for the honour done to them.
Starting from October, 2025, every first Saturday of each new month would be observed by all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as a National Sanitation Day across the country.
The National Sanitation Day was first launched during the first administration of President John Dramani Mahama in 2014, as part of the Government’s efforts to keep the nation clean.
